District Overview

  Kiewit’s Western Canada District is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. We are looking for hard working individuals with a passion for construction who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty! Our current opportunities are spread across the entire west coast of Canada. Location Kiewit Western Canada District has opportunities located on projects throughout BC but this internship, it will be based in the Burnaby/Coquitlam, BC area. Responsibilities • Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks to the company • Support environmental compliance for a project • Update environmental plans • Perform and support in field inspections and monitoring (water quality, underwater noise etc.) • Identify wetland and sensitive environmental areas for protection and fencing in advance of construction activities. • Maintaining project data tracking requirements • Develop and conduct environmental protection and awareness training to staff at all levels • Support principal technical advisor and coordinator for environmental issues • Coordinate with relevant crews on their work locations, material needs, and quantities • Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings that minimize impact to the natural environment and local communities. • Prepare project and Kiewit required reports and communication of environmental risks to Environment Manager management • Attend field visits with Client and regulatory agencies when requested • Liaise with the client providing them design information, schedule details, quantities etc. ensuring they are aware of any unanticipated discoveries, critical permitting and compliance issues. Qualifications: 

• Minimum undergraduate degree in an environmental science, climate, environmental engineering, sustainability, or related field. • 0-1 years of experience in environmental compliance for large construction projects (ideally infrastructure) • This position may require the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that they have a valid driver's license when offered employment. • Working knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental legislation • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail • Ability to travel and relocate as required Other Requirements:
